Re: A QVMAG Opportunity?

Dear Richard and Robert,

Thank you for your positive response. It is good to have your Expression of Interest in a potential Tamar Writer-In-Residence program.

It is early days yet but when we get down to presenting an application some kind of agreement-in-principle would be useful. As I’ve already said, there would/should be no financial cost to the QVMAG unless the QVMAG were to commission work outside the residency. The purpose in the residency is to enable ‘the writer’ to be a free agent and unencumberedalbeit working towards identified outcomes.

Personally, I’m antithetic to BUREAUbabble and pointless humbug, so I’m ever likely to lose enthusiasm whenever its encountered and move on.

It is even possible that once you learn more of the project and our current ‘preferred candidate’, and the project brief, you may even wish to withdraw your support. I doubt it but nothing surprises me anymore. Some things just seem to have no bounds!

When there is something of substance to discuss relative to an application I/we shall get in touch. It may be that as the project develops other ‘players’ may become involved and I’m mindful of not getting ahead of where we need to be. Your E
oI right now is enough to be going on with.

Its good that you see an opportunity for the QVMAG and it would be good to realise it if at all possible.

Regards,

Ray

The General Manager, Robert Dobrzynski, has passed your email onto to me for advice as he would normally do with such requests.

QVMAG would be interested in participating in a Tamar Writer-In-Residence program. I will develop an Agreement so that it is clear what is expected of each party. QVMAG for instance is not in a position to provide any funds to the program but can provide 'in kind' support such as a work station and staffing access to the collection.

I would like to convene a meeting with you and any other member of your group to identify the key issues. I will also ask Martin George and Jon Addison from QVMAG to attend. We would need the contact details of your group. My PA is away today ill, but I will ask her to contact you and the others tomorrow to set a meeting time in the next few weeks.

I can see that the program has merit and I am pleased that QVMAG can assist. There are many positive possibilities and I look forward to discussing this with you further.

Subject: A QVMAG Opportunity?

Dear Robert,

In consideration of your
‘Christmas eMAIL’ to me entreating me to correspond with you directly instead of a Council staff member from the QVMAG I’m writing today in regard to an opportunity to locate a Tamar Writer-In-Residence at the QVMAG possibly towards the middle of 2016.

The group that I’m working with currently has a candidate in mind and its imagined that there would be benefits for the region and the institution.
  • What would the cost to the QVMAG be? .... Nil that is unless the QVMAG were to commission work outside the residency.
  • What would be expected of the QVMAG? ... Access to the collections and possibly access to some research cum office cum interview space/s
  • What involvement with QVMAG programming? ... Nil unless QVMAG initiated it and the ‘resident’ agreed.
  • What administrative role would the QVMAG play? ... Nil as the project would be auspiced by another body as of now.
  • What living accommodation might be required? ... Nil for the current candidate
  • What are the benefits to the QVMAG? .... To be determined by the QVMAG in consultation with the resident.

An expression of interest by week’s end would be useful and appreciated in the preparation of funding application/s

Regards,

Ray
