Re: Bald Hill Rd Drainage Works

Hi!

Thank you Cory the images and information, it is good to have.  However, as you might expect, I contest the notion that  trees shown “need to be removed” or even that they are at the end of their life (useful or otherwise?!) unless of course you regard it as being a sure thing that the council will come along with chain saws backed up by a self-serving and bureaucraticly LAZYassessment.

Apart from the COUNCILthreat  there is no independent evidence that’s been presented to me that they are indeed diseased or dying OR that there is no alternative to removing them. Assertions do not constitute evidence and neither does the provision of advice translate as ‘permission’.

There is a video of the ‘January-flooding-event’ at the bottom of Forest Rd where the Trevallyn Rivulet(?) comes out that you should look at. Sadly, I’ve been unable to track it down so far today so I can point you to it – you may already know of it?!.

Anyway you may well recall the damage to a driveway at that point and there are significant implications to that up Bald Hill way and the management of storm water in the municipality generally – and Trevallyn in particular!

I’ll share your images and there may well be other who’ll want to join me. Yes lets meet and I’ll call you soonish!

Regards,

Ray

Good Morning Ray,

As per our conversation yesterday please find attached a street view and aerial view showing the trees needed to be removed for the repair work that is required to the stormwater infrastructure. I will be happy to meet with you onsite and discuss what works are required to be undertaken.

Questions without Notice for Council's May 23 Meeting

Dear Mayor and Aldermen,

At the ordinary Council meeting scheduled for May 23  I  wish to ask the following questions without notice in regard to the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery.

A) Given that it was nine months ago in August 2015 that Council approved five (5) recommendations in respect to the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery  being:

!/ That QVMAG Strategic Plan 2012-2107, including its guiding vision, is reviewed to ensure best alignment with the Strategic Themes of the CoL Strategic Plan 2014 and the recommendations in this report.

2/ That beneficial alignments with other Tasmanian museums and galleries be explored in the interests of seeking overall efficiency and equity in use of State Government funds.

3/ That an evaluation of QVMAG be commissioned that demonstrates its economic, social and environmental value to its community and the special contribution it makes to the educational, intellectual, human, social and natural capital of its community.

4/ That options for establishment of an independent skills-based Board of Governance be investigated and the best option implemented.

5/ That the organizational structure of CoL be reviewed and measures be implemented to
more effectively leverage opportunities and pool resources across complementary business units.

Therefore, will Council please provide an up to date report on the implementation of these five (5) recommendation and the details of progress thus far? Moreover, will council please provide all information relevant to the circumstances germane to:
  • The apparent delay in implementing Council’s recommendations of August 2015 ? and
  • The expected date upon which Council will receive the report/s? and
  • Any outcomes thus far relevant this overall review process?

B) Given that there are variously substantiated reports that  a high profile consultant  has been commission to report on the QVMAG, will Council now:
1/  Identify the consultant; and
2/ Publish a copy of her/his brief;
In the interest of openness and transparency relative to the governance and management of significant component of the City of Launceston’s operation and budget?

C) Will Council please provide:
1/  A list of all the acquisitions made  by the QVMAG for its collections thus in the current financial year; and:
2/ A list of all the items in the QVMAG’s collections that have been disposed of or deaccessioned in the current financial year?

I look forward with considerable interest to receiving the information requested.

Regards,

Ray

ŒThe World Inside¹ exhibit

Hi!

I have tried to call you a couple of times this morning and obviously you are unavailable for incoming calls.

Getting to the point of my call, given that I understand that the production of  ‘The World Inside’ exhibit:
  • Took upwards of 6 months to curate and produce; and
  • Involved 3 curatorial staff; as well as
  • the institution’s production team presumably,;
are you able to provide me with the project’s budget and an estimate of its eventual cost.

This information would throw a great deal of light on a whole range of issues and help put the project in perspective. I look forward to any advice and/or you are able to provide in this regard.

Regards,

Ray

Hi!

I have sent this to Richards and since then I have changed the first image. I’m now considering adding some text and links to other material to both broaden the context and further contextualise to discussion.

Regards,

Ray
