ŒThe World Inside¹ exhibit

Hi!

I have tried to call you a couple of times this morning and obviously you are unavailable for incoming calls.

Getting to the point of my call, given that I understand that the production of  ‘The World Inside’ exhibit:
  • Took upwards of 6 months to curate and produce; and
  • Involved 3 curatorial staff; as well as
  • the institution’s production team presumably,;
are you able to provide me with the project’s budget and an estimate of its eventual cost.

This information would throw a great deal of light on a whole range of issues and help put the project in perspective. I look forward to any advice and/or you are able to provide in this regard.

Regards,

Ray

In intend to distribute this paper cum critical review widely throughout my network in the cause of encouraging a wider and more inclusive discourse. With this in mind I’d appreciate your response by the close of business Monday as I intend to put out a Media Release as soon as possible.

Hi!

I have sent this to Richards and since then I have changed the first image. I’m now considering adding some text and links to other material to both broaden the context and further contextualise to discussion.

Ray

Citizen's Petition Progress Report

Council has flagged that it is “going absolutely by the book” despite there being 1,493 signatures. In its own way that says something for community engagement, accountability and “Organisational Values”!

The response on behalf of the General Manager.

As outlined in the Council Report on 11 April 2016, the General Manager, in accordance with s60(2) of the Local Government Act 1993 (the Act), will report to Council within 42 days after tabling the petition. This will therefore be on or before 23 May 2016.

Following the Council Meeting, if the petition complies with s59 of the Act, the council will hold the public meeting within 30 days after the meeting, which is on or before 22 June 2016.

When [Council] has] determined the date of the Council Meeting, [the authoriser] will be advised regarding the petition's compliance and the date of the Council Meeting in accordance with s60(1) of the Act.

Dear Robert and Albert,

I note from the Council minutes that the Citizen Petition to Council has been tabled in accordance with Section 58 of the Local Government Act 1993 (Tas) and I have advised several petitioners of this fact.

I am however receiving many enquiries about the expected timeline from this point forward in respect to the petition. In particular, as the authorising person, I’m being asked about the anticipated date for the public meeting. I would appreciate any advice that you are able to offer in order that I can more adequately advise petitioners seeking this information.

Regards,

Ray Norman

FYI

This should be posted on the various sites given that Council has flagged that it “going absolutely by the book” despite there being 1,493 signatures. So much for community engagement, accountability and “Organisational Values”!

FW: ATTN Mr. Tidey _ CoL & QVMAG Asset Management

For The Record

Subject: ATTN Mr. Tidey _ CoL & QVMAG Asset Management

Dear Mr. Tidey,

I refer you to your letter to me
(copied below) and dated February 4 2016 in which you assert that “Council meets its obligations under relevant legislation for asset management.”

While you make the assertion you offer no evidence except for the further assertion that the Audit Panel and auditor have been informed about work undertaken in the area of asset management. I submit that in the end this offers little reassurance unless it can be tested.

Your, and QVMAG management’s, responses are strong on the assertion that asset management processes indeed have veracity but it must be said that you offer no evidence whatsoever that the processes asserted to be in place have veracity or that it can be demonstrated that they:

  • Deliver outcomes that ensures that the ‘values’ invested in ‘public assets’ are indeed protected;
  • Ensure that when/if assets are disposed of there is an appropriate and equitable return to the ‘public purse’: and that
  • These things are drawn to the attention of the constituency’s elected representatives, are appropriately endorsed and recorded and are openly available to constituents in accord with Council’s Organisational Values.

If, as you assert, there are credible processes in place to protect public property under the management of the City of Launceston you will no doubt be able to provide evidence to support your assertions.

I suggest that there is a case where this could done expediently given that it has been the subject of previous correspondence and presumably internal investigation also.

I refer to the sale/disposal of the giraffe calf discussed in my correspondence with Martin George. Given all that has gone before I suggest that it would be reasonable to ask for that evidence by the close of business Tuesday March 22nd.

I look forward with interest to receiving the information requested.

Regards,

Ray  Norman
